Inside The Gardens at Pinckney Commonwealth
Regenerative Agriculture, Rooted in Community
At the Pinckney Commonwealth Campus, we believe that truly healthy food begins with healthy soil. The Gardens represent the vibrant, green heartbeat of our 935 W. M-36 campus in Pinckney, Michigan. Comprising a highly integrated blend of outdoor cultivation fields and advanced, year-round greenhouses, our gardens are designed to produce an abundance of premium, nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables.
By pairing ancestral ecological wisdom with modern agriscience, we provide a hyper-local source of pristine, farm-raised produce for local retail markets, regional restaurants, and individual families.
Grown with Intent: Our Sustainable Practices
We transcend traditional farming by practicing regenerative agriculture—a methodology that doesn’t just sustain the land, but actively heals, restores, and enriches it with every single harvest.
- Living Soil & Soil Biology: We never rely on synthetic chemical fertilizers or harsh pesticides. Instead, we cultivate a thriving underground ecosystem of beneficial microbes and organic compost, resulting in produce that is naturally more flavorful and vitamin-rich.
- The Aquaculture Integration: In alignment with our campus’s zero-waste, circular philosophy, The Gardens are naturally nourished by nutrient-rich water recycled directly from The Fishery. This closed-loop system acts as a powerful, organic fertilizer.
- Four-Season Cultivation: Utilizing passive solar greenhouse technologies, we extend the traditional Michigan growing season, ensuring our community has access to crisp greens and fresh produce even in the depths of winter.
What We Grow: From Heirloom to Everyday Essentials
The Gardens feature a diverse rotation of crops carefully selected for their exceptional flavor, hardiness, and nutritional profile:
- Heirloom Tomatoes & Peppers: Grown to absolute peak maturity for immediate distribution and to feed the custom recipes of The Cannery.
- Crisp Leafy Greens & Microgreens: Cultivated daily in our controlled environments for unparalleled freshness and crunch.
- Root Crops & Seasonal Squashes: Earthy, robust varieties that anchor our seasonal community feasts and local restaurant menus.
- Aromatic Herbs: Fresh basil, rosemary, cilantro, and mint that add vibrant, localized flavor to tables across the region.
Cultivating Minds and Markets
Beyond the harvest, The Gardens serve as an open-air classroom for The Learning Center. Here, students, aspiring market gardeners, and local families get their hands dirty learning the mechanics of companion planting, carbon sequestration, and bio-intensive urban farming.
As a core revenue pillar of our Reg CF investment ecosystem, The Gardens prove that sustainable, localized food networks are not only vital for our health and planet—they are a resilient foundation for the future economy.
Bring the Harvest Home: Experience the difference of truly living food. Find our produce at partner Michigan grocers, taste it highlighted on regional menus, or pick it yourself during our quarterly 3-Day Seasonal Festivals!
